Over the past decade, the Moapa Band of Paiutes has undertaken several significant technology and energy projects to promote sustainability and economic development.

Projects and Improvements

Moapa Southern Paiute Solar Project

Commissioned in March 2017, this 250 MW photovoltaic power plant is located on the Moapa River Indian Reservation. It was the first utility-scale solar project on North American tribal lands, generating enough energy to power approximately 111,000 homes and offsetting around 341,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually.

Arrow Canyon Solar Project

Partnering with EDF Renewables, the Moapa Band of Paiutes is constructing a 200 MW solar array with 375 MWh of energy storage, expected to be operational by 2023. This initiative further solidifies the tribe's role in advancing clean energy infrastructure.

Moapa Travel Plaza Microgrid

In April 2014, the tribe inaugurated a solar-hybrid microgrid system for their travel business center, the largest employer at the Valley of Fire exit off Interstate 15. This system includes solar panels, battery storage, and diesel generators, aiming to save approximately $700,000 in annual fuel costs and reduce carbon emissions by 3.6 million pounds

Southern Bighorn Solar & Storage Center

In collaboration with NV Energy and 8minutenergy Renewables, the tribe is developing a 300 MW solar array coupled with 540 MWh of energy storage. This project underscores the tribe's leadership in integrating renewable energy with advanced storage solutions.

Eagle Shadow Mountain Solar Farm

Currently under construction, this planned 300 MW solar project is also situated on the reservation. It represents the tribe's ongoing commitment to renewable energy initiatives.
